Cang (1931.2.17—2014.12.17), from Wujin, Jiangsu, party member. Famous literary translator, Professor Peking University, member of Chinese Writers Association and China Translators Association. Cang 1955 graduated from the Department of Russian Language and Literature in Peking University, and 1957 graduated from the postgraduate class of Russian Department in Peking University. Cang began to publish his works on 1955. He is the author of China's Translation History. After decades of hard work, Cang has translated and published Dostoevsky's major works, including short story collections The Poor Man, Double Personality, White Night, Little Hero, hypocrite and its admirer, Notes in the basement and novels The Insulted and Injured Man, Notes on Dead House, Crime and Punishment, Idiot and Devil. He also translated and published the works of Russian classic writers such as Pushkin, Nikolai Nikolai Gogol, lev tolstoy, Ya ostrovsky, Turgenev and Gorky, including The Past and Random Thoughts of herzen, which was translated in cooperation with Mr. Ba Jin. Professor Cang's literary translation not only accurately grasps the inherent spirit and style characteristics of the original text, but also embodies the profound poetic characteristics of Chinese, which has high aesthetic value. These translated works have entered the great series of contemporary translated literature in China and become an integral part of contemporary literature and culture in China. Professor Cang translated about10 million words of Russian literary works. Another 2.5 million words of literary translation have not been published or published. In 2007, she was awarded the honorary title of "Senior Translator" by translators association of china. For decades, Professor Cang has devoted himself to translation creation, and at the same time, he has deeply and systematically thought about literary translation. He was the first scholar who advocated and devoted himself to the study of translation theory after the new period, which laid the foundation for the discipline construction of translation theory of Russian language and literature major in Peking University.
