CET-4 and CET-6 stipulate that full-time undergraduate and junior college students, graduate students, full-time adult undergraduate and junior college students and students who have completed CET-4 can apply. Students who have completed CET-4 and CET-6 and scored 425 can apply for CET-6. The written test scores are no longer used as the scores of CET-4 and CET-6, and all candidates who have completed the written test registration are eligible to apply for the oral test.

Students in ordinary colleges and universities are registered by the academic affairs office of their school. Colleges and universities are responsible for organizing candidates from independent colleges and adult education colleges to register. Other full-time adult college students are registered by the Academic Affairs Office of the school to the research and recruitment office of the provincial examination management center, and the nearest designated knowledge points are collectively registered. In addition to the designated knowledge points, other colleges and universities may not accept non-school candidates.

If non-school students want to prove their English level, they can apply for IELTS and TOEFL, which can also test their English ability well and get social recognition.
