More than 80 freshmen were selected from more than 2,000 candidates in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Wuhan. Before the formal enrollment of the Theatre Academy, there were pioneers, including Wang Rongzeng (formerly Rong Chunshe), Li Ke, Su Yi, Su Zhi, Jin Tong, Zhao Zhongru, Zhao Huisheng, Yang Shuqin and Xu Ruoying.
