The origin of the school name

Tsinghua University's predecessor was Tsinghua Campus. Tsinghua campus is the seat of the former Qing imperial garden. Tsinghua Campus was originally a part of Xichun Garden built during Kangxi period. In the second year of Daoguang (1822), Xichun Garden was divided into two parts, and the garden in the west was named "Near Spring Garden", which was given to the fourth son of the emperor (later Emperor Xianfeng);

The garden in the east is still Xichun Park, which was given to the emperor's five sons. During the Xianfeng period, Dongyuan was renamed as "Tsinghua Campus" because it took a poem by Xie Hun, a poet of the Jin Dynasty, "Birds Singing, Shui Mu Zhan Tsinghua" ("You"). The Tsinghua School, which was built in Tsinghua campus with part of boxer indemnity returned from the United States, officially opened in 19 1 1.
