Suzhou University, referred to as "Suda", is located in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, a national "double first-class" university, and the first batch of universities selected by the national "2 1 1 Project" and "20 1 1 Plan", the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Jiangsu Province.

Subsequently, Suzhou Sericulture Institute (1995), Suzhou Silk Vocational and Technical College (1997) and Suzhou Medical College (2000) were merged into Suzhou University.
