The University of Hong Kong is neither 985 nor 2 1 1. The University of Hong Kong is an international public research university in Hong Kong, China. It was established on March 2000 19 16, and was formally incorporated on March 30th of the following year.

HKU is a member of Pacific Rim University Alliance, Song Lian Alliance, Universitas 2 1, China University Presidents Association, Guangdong-Hong Kong University Alliance, Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance, Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance, AACSB and EQUIS.

School history

1910 March 16, the then Governor Sir Frederick Lugard laid the foundation stone for the university.

1911On March 30th, the university was first established in Hong Kong. It is an autonomous organization composed of scholars according to the University Ordinance.

19 12 March 1 1, the university was completed and opened. The Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Engineering and the Medical College are the earliest established colleges. Medical College developed from Hong Kong College of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and was founded in 1887.

19 16 12, the first degree awarding ceremony was held in the university, and only 23 students graduated. Ten years after the establishment of the University of Hong Kong, girls were admitted for the first time.

1937, Queen Mary Hospital opened, and has been the teaching hospital of the university ever since. The outbreak of World War II brought academic activities to a standstill. Previously, HKU had four colleges: College of Arts, College of Engineering, College of Medicine and College of Science.

After 1945, with the beginning of post-war reconstruction, universities experienced structural development.
