Hefei University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Anhui Provincial Government have established universities, and the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau and the Ministry of Education have established universities. The school was founded in 1945, and 1960 was approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China as a national key university. In 2005, the school became a national "2 1 1 Project" key construction university, in 2009, it became a national "985 Project" dominant discipline innovation platform construction university, and in 20 17, it entered the ranks of national "double-class" construction universities.

The national specialties of the school include: new energy materials and devices, Internet of Things engineering, material forming and control engineering, architecture, civil engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, pharmaceutical engineering, food science and engineering, resource exploration engineering, electrical engineering and automation, measurement and control technology and instruments, information management and information system, and vehicle engineering.
