Hunan University of Science and Technology, located in Xiangtan City, was established as Xiangbei Institute of Architecture on 1949, and Xiangtan Institute of Technology on 1978, formerly known as Xiangtan Coal Institute, is an undergraduate college directly under the former Ministry of Coal Industry. 198 1 renamed Xiangtan Institute of Mining and Technology, 1997 renamed Xiangtan Institute of Technology. 1998, the central government and local governments established a system, with Hunan Province as the main management.
