ACM ACM International College Programming Contest (ACM/ICPC: ACM International College Programming Contest) is sponsored by ACM Computing Machinery Association, an authoritative organization with a long history in the international computer field. It is recognized as the largest and highest level acm acm international collegiate programming contest in the world. Its purpose is to let college students fully demonstrate their ability to analyze and solve problems with computers. This competition has been held for 27 times since 1970. Since the previous competitions have gathered elites from all continents and "promising stars" in the computer field, they have attracted the attention of internationally renowned universities and computer companies all over the world and become the most influential international computer competition for global college students. The purpose of holding this competition is not only to cultivate the creativity, teamwork spirit and innovative consciousness of the contestants in the process of software program development, but also to test their ability to carry out development activities under pressure. The competition is divided into two stages: regional preliminaries and international finals. The first place in each preliminaries automatically qualifies for the World Finals. The World Finals are arranged in March-April every year, while the regional preliminaries are arranged in September-June, 65438+ February of the previous year, and are held on all continents. Since 1998, IBM has sponsored the world finals and regional preliminaries of this event for five consecutive years. This competition is organized by colleges and universities (each team consists of a coach, three regular players and one reserve player). The regional preliminaries of ACM/ICPC are large-scale and extensive activities.
Mainland China has participated in the ACM/ICPC Asian preliminaries for nine times since 1996. The first six competitions were held in Shanghai and hosted by Shanghai University. In 2002, Beijing and Xi 'an were founded, sponsored by Tsinghua University and Xi 'an Jiaotong University respectively. In 2003, Beijing and Guangzhou were founded, sponsored by Tsinghua University and Sun Yat-sen University respectively. Beijing and Shanghai were established in 2004, which were held by Peking University and Shanghai Jiaotong University respectively. In 2005, Beijing, Chengdu and Hangzhou were held by Peking University, Sichuan University and Zhejiang University respectively.
