University architecture problems
Hello, I am an architecture student of South China University of Technology (one of the eight old schools of architecture), and now I am a junior. I hope my answer can help you.

Specifically, finishing is a foundation for freshmen, mainly to learn some drawing knowledge, such as drawing specifications, needle drawing and so on. Curriculum design is mainly to cultivate some basic aesthetic design knowledge, such as plane composition, three-dimensional composition, space composition and so on. Sophomore began to contact with all kinds of architectural design, but it is generally small in area and simple in function, belonging to entry-level design, such as villas, dormitories, schools, restaurants and so on. In the third year, on the basis of the second year, contact with buildings with more complex functions, but the basic process remains unchanged; Senior year is the most difficult building with the most complicated functional structure, such as theater and high-rise building. Next semester, you will be exposed to large-scale designs such as community design. The fifth major, like other majors, mainly focuses on internship and preparation for graduation design.

So, there is no extra year. The complexity of architecture needs a long time to learn the way, so it takes one more year than other majors.

Architecture is actually a fusion of art and technology, and both aspects of thinking are indispensable. Architecture advocates rational thinking and artistic creation. Science and engineering thinking is still very important to architecture. This is the obvious difference between the architecture department of engineering university and the architecture department of art university.
