When people walk in this area, there is usually no public space to provide convenient seats. Therefore, the main design concept of National Bank, a small private building, is to add a large step element near Hony University as a public space for people to use. Its purpose is to make the new KB Youth a public space that is open to the city rather than closed.
And make financial institutions serve the public interest, not just some individuals or members. The terrace from the first floor to the second floor is planned as an activity place where people can rest, have meetings or perform street performances.
In this building, architects use topology to study the relationship between architectural form and site.
Create a spatial structure to achieve some publicity. The big step is divided into several folds, one facing the street and leading to the second floor, the other facing the indoor coffee shop and reaching the roof, and the third located on the roof terrace, creating two indoor staircase spaces and two outdoor staircase squares. The large steps create a continuous loop from the basement to the roof, which naturally attracts the urban streamline to the building. The fuzzy floor division mixes the whole space, making the building and the city integrated. Connecting the building with the city makes the building realize a topological openness and opens up a topological space for the public and the city, not as a private space. History needs to be respected and memory needs to be preserved. Only by linking the facade of the building with the memory of the city and attracting the texture of the city can we create a spatial structure. People can observe the city through the historical track and framework.
Indoor steps, columns, brick walls and floors have also been preserved, allowing visitors to feel the traces of history. The indoor stepped space is equipped with foldable screens, which can be used not only as a performance hall and theater, but also as a book cafe, a rest place and a reading room. Outdoor stairs and roof space can be transformed into places with various functions and uses, such as meditation, relaxation, performances, street performances, parties, etc., which are all helpful to realize the original concept of design, that is, introducing the vitality of the city into Hongda area.
