The school was founded in 1958, formerly known as Zhoushan Fisheries College, renamed as Zhejiang Fisheries College in 1975, and merged with Zhoushan Normal College in 1998 to form Zhejiang Ocean College. After 2000, Zhoushan Health School, Zhejiang Fisheries School, Zhejiang Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Zhoushan Petrochemical School and Zhoushan Commercial School were merged one after another.
