1In February, 932, he transferred from rural primary school to Siyanqi primary school in Ningbo, where he first read modern scientific knowledge such as vernacular literature of Guo Moruo and Zhu Ziqing, and was inspired by the new ideas and new cultures of the May 4th Movement.
1933 was admitted to Zhejiang No.4 Middle School (later renamed Ningbo Middle School).
1935 was expelled for taking the lead in opposing the fascist military management system of the school; This winter, he also participated in the sports on1February 29th.
1936 after graduating from junior high school, he dropped out of school because of poverty and made a living by copying at home. June+10, 5438, left home to be an apprentice in Shanghai huayi industrial company's liquid medicine battery safety lamp factory. When I was a teenager, I realized the darkness, backwardness and hardships of life in China at that time.
1937 In May, the factory closed down and he went home unemployed. In August, I was admitted to Ningbo Advanced Industrial Vocational School in Zhejiang Province. I studied architecture hard. At this time, War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression broke out, and he witnessed the dark corruption and ineffective anti-Japanese war of the Kuomintang government. Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou have successively fallen, and Ningbo is in jeopardy. So he joined Ningbo Student Weekly to save the country and began to get in touch with Marxist thought.
/kloc-joined the China * * * Production Party in Meiyuan Township, Yinxian County at the beginning of 0/940, and served as a member of the branch of Ningbo Senior Industrial Vocational School and the academic committee of Yinxian County Committee.
1940 10 was admitted to the department of civil engineering of Zhejiang university, and with the help of several underground party member, he was admitted to Longquan branch in southern Zhejiang. Influenced by the style of seeking truth from facts advocated by Zhu Kezhen and Zheng, he continued to use the advanced self-study method initiated by Ningbo Higher Industrial Vocational School.
1In the summer of 942, the Japanese invaders invaded southern Zhejiang. He and his classmates went into exile for a long time and arrived at Zunyi Zhejiang University General School to continue their studies through work-study programs and scholarships.
Since 1943, I have been employed as a mathematics teaching assistant of the Institute of Technology by the school as a student because I won the national undergraduate mathematics competition, tutored differential equations, engineering mathematics and other courses.
From 65438 to 0944, I wrote my graduation thesis with my tutor Qian Lingxi and graduated with excellent results. He stayed in school as a teaching assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering and presided over the work of the materials laboratory. At this time, he also had the idea of going abroad for further study, but he witnessed the difficult times, especially encouraged by Wen Yiduo's assassination, and put the future of China revolution first and continued to join the patriotic and democratic movement.
From 65438 to 0946, after Zhejiang University moved back to Hangzhou, he found a party organization, organized the Hangzhou Scientific Workers Association based on Science Times, and carried out democratic activities in the scientific and technological circles. This is also a prelude for him to engage in the organization work of "Association for Science and Technology", "Association for Science and Technology" and "Popular Science" in the future, and promote the development of science and technology in China.
From 1949 to 1959, in the first 10 year after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the scientific and technological circles were faced with the arduous task of reorganizing their ranks and opening up their careers on the basis of poverty, backwardness and war. Zhu put aside his yearning academic research and devoted himself wholeheartedly to the scientific and technological organization and development of the motherland.
1949 10 After going to Beijing, he participated in the preparatory work of the Science Popularization Bureau of the Central Ministry of Culture and presided over the counseling office to promote national science popularization activities.
1950, at the National Congress of Natural Science Workers, he was elected as the standing committee member of the newly established All-China Association for Popularization of Science and Technology, and was responsible for establishing the secretariat of the association; And in the name of the Secretary of the National Federation of Science and Technology of China Producers' Party, he helped to promote the work of the secretariat of the All-China Federation of Natural Science Specialized Societies. During the four or five years, he traveled all over the country and promoted the establishment of the Association for Science and Technology and popular science branches in more than 20 provinces and cities.
1955 10, Zhu, as a representative of China Academy of Sciences, went to Shenzhen to welcome Qian Xuesen, a famous scientist studying in the United States, back to China. Then, Zhu helped Qian Xuesen and Qian Weichang set up the Institute of Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the theoretical and applied mechanics Institution of China. Just as he tried to do a good job in the academic management of the newly-built Institute of Mechanics and actively developed the cause of mechanics research, the "anti-Rightist" movement began, and Zhu was accused of sheltering the Rightists and suffered a heavy blow. He was transferred to the newly established University of Science and Technology of China to teach. On this bumpy road full of bitterness and bitterness, he devoted all his energy to the teaching of mechanics and the creation of new disciplines, and constantly explored. During more than 20 years of teaching in the Department of Geophysics and the Department of Modern Mechanics of the Chinese University of Science and Technology, more than 10 courses have been offered successively.
Starting from 1963, Zhu presided over the work of the teaching and research section of explosion mechanics in the department of modern mechanics, and led the work of the first explosion mechanics specialty in China, making it develop healthily. For more than 20 years, it has made important contributions to the development of explosion mechanics and impact dynamics from the aspects of the establishment and improvement of teachers' scientific research team, the construction of teaching materials, the construction of laboratories and the training of undergraduates and postgraduates. At the same time, he is engaged in the research of nuclear explosion in the air, the propagation of stress wave and its destruction and buckling, the impact characteristics of materials, history of mechanics and so on. In China University of Science and Technology, the first explosion mechanics major in China was established and developed.
1In the autumn of 985, Zhu became the first president of Ningbo University. He took the lead in establishing the first comprehensive university in Ningbo, which was donated by Sir Bao Yugang, Chairman of Hongkong Global Shipping Group, in the spirit of "providing for the elderly and going forward bravely". After less than a year's hard preparation, Ningbo University officially opened as a new comprehensive university with both arts, science, business and law disciplines. The wish of several generations to build a university in Ningbo has finally come true. In the process of running a school, Zhu worked hard to carry out educational reform. The school only has departments, regardless of majors, and relaxes the training scope of each department, advocating and carrying forward the tradition of "seeking truth from facts and applying what they have learned", aiming at cultivating outstanding talents and social backbones with rich basic knowledge of disciplines and pioneering and innovative ability, and serving China's reform, opening up and socialist modernization. These reforms have condensed Zhu's educational thoughts and years of hard work.
1in the autumn of 988, the school began to take shape and a 66,000-square-meter school building was built. For eight departments, an unprecedented team of professors in Ningbo history was recruited, and teaching and scientific research activities were carried out normally. At this point, he urged him to resign as president and return to the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing as a researcher to concentrate on the study of structural dynamic buckling and mechanical properties of polymer materials.
Zhu has served as the first, second, third and fourth director or executive director of China theoretical and applied mechanics Institution, deputy director of the professional committee of explosive mechanics, member of the professional committee of rational mechanics and mathematical methods in mechanics, executive editor of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, and deputy editor of Explosion and Shock. Zhu has been actively participating in the organization of scientific activities since his youth. He made every effort to support and help famous scientists in China, such as Liang, Zhu Kezhen, Yuan Hanqing and Qian Xuesen, and promoted the progress of many countries and modern scientific undertakings. In his work, he became the middleman between the Party and these scientists, and became their right-hand man.
1946, after Zhejiang University moved back to Hangzhou, he joined the "Science Times Society" with the dual tasks of advocating science and striving for democracy. Under the leadership of the underground party, he carried out the activities of uniting and advancing scientific youth, and cooperated with, Ding? Together, we promoted the organization of the Assistant Lecturer Committee of Zhejiang University to support the student movement, which was then known as the second front of the Liberation War.
1948 to further assist psychologist Professor Chen Li in organizing Hangzhou Branch of Chinese Scientists Association. On the one hand, he carried out a series of scientific activities such as solar eclipse observation, on the other hand, he publicized the social responsibility of scientists and called for unity to get rid of the double bondage of imperialism and feudal remnants.
1949 On the eve of the liberation of Hangzhou, he was a member of Hangzhou Science and Technology Association, an underground organization of China's * * * Production Party. Gu Chaohao and Ren Yuji mobilized members of the association to carry out activities to protect factories and schools and prepare for liberation, which prevented Hangzhou cotton mill from moving to Taiwan, protected power plants and waterworks from being damaged, preserved important information such as water resources of Qiantang River, and promoted the uprising of radar research institute. On May 3, after the liberation of Hangzhou, he and party member immediately reported the situation of enterprises, industry and agriculture in Hangzhou to Zhang Jinfu, the representative of the PLA Military Control Committee in Hangzhou, and cooperated with him to take over, making the Association for Science and Technology a bridge between the party and the scientific and technological circles.
1949 10, Zhu went to Beijing to help chemist Yuan Hanqing set up the Science Popularization Bureau of the Central Ministry of Culture, presided over the work of the consulting office, and promoted the popular science activities of the whole people according to the provisions on popularizing scientific knowledge in the Program of China People's Political Consultative Conference. According to his suggestion, promote the establishment of science and technology museums and planetariums in major cities, organize popular science exhibitions and publish popular science books; In counties and rural areas, relying on cultural centers, roving exhibitions of scientific knowledge such as astronomical phenomena, agricultural pests and diseases, and maternal and child health care are organized, with an average of 80,000 people in each county in North China and Northwest China. He advocated the establishment of the National Association for Popularization of Science and Technology, and promoted the popularization of science to become a mass activity in the scientific community. At the same time, he participated in the activities of the China General Association of Scientists and helped promote the organization of the National Congress of Natural Scientists.
1950 in August, he was elected as the standing committee member of the newly established All-China Association for Popularization of Science and Technology, responsible for organizing the secretariat of the association, assisting the chairman and Liang of the association to organize branches and branches in various provinces and cities, and organizing scientific lectures throughout the country, which has grown from 10000 to hundreds of thousands. At the same time, he was elected as the secretary of the joint branch of the National Federation of Science, and he was duty-bound to help promote the work of the secretariat of the All-China Federation of Natural Science Societies and carry out academic activities. In his years of scientific organization activities, he insisted that scientific workers are the main bodies of various scientific organizations and tried his best to correct the "bureaucratic" tendency of the full-time organs (secretariats) of the organizations. He believes that scientists have the consciousness of opposing the dark rule in the old society and the enthusiasm of contributing to scientific research, education, popularization and socialist construction in the new society. Organizers should serve scientists with an open mind, promote democracy and let scientists give full play to their initiative and enthusiasm.
1955 10, Zhu was ordered by Chen Yi, Vice Premier of the State Council, to go to Shenzhen as a representative of China Academy of Sciences to welcome Qian Xuesen, a famous scientist who had been persecuted in the United States for a long time, back to China. For this historic event, Hong Kong newspapers published the well-known photos of Qian Xuesen's family stepping on the Luohu Bridge. On the other side of the bridge, Zhu held Qian Xuesen's hand tightly and warmly welcomed him on behalf of the motherland. Then, Zhu accompanied Qian Xuesen to inspect factories, universities and scientific research institutions in China's north and south 10 cities, and helped him to set up the Institute of Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
1In June, 1956, the Institute of Mechanics with Qian Xuesen as its director was born.1In June, 1957, the China theoretical and applied mechanics Society with Qian Xuesen as its director was established, which marked the development of mechanics in China entered a new stage. At the beginning of the establishment of the Institute of Mechanics, laboratories of elasticity, plasticity, fluid mechanics, chemical fluid mechanics, physical mechanics, automatic control and operational research were established in a pioneering way. At that time, many research directions were not only blank in China, but also the latest frontier research in the world. On the one hand, as the academic secretary of the college, Zhu assisted Qian Xuesen in developing new disciplines from the aspect of academic management; On the other hand, as one of the leaders of the Party organization, he helped Qian Xuesen to build the Institute of Mechanics into a vibrant research institute in a short period of one or two years from the aspects of implementing the Party's intellectual policy and scientific research line, recruiting talents, organizing teams, building new buildings and making plans. Even after suffering a heavy political blow, he was ordered by Zhang Jinfu, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to set up a branch of the Institute of Mechanics in Huairou mountainous area, which opened up rocket experiments that could not be carried out in the city. When people praise Qian Xuesen, Qian Weichang and Guo Yonghuai for their historic contributions to the establishment of the Institute of Mechanics, they will never forget Zhu's important contributions. Explosive mechanics is a new discipline characterized by studying the basic laws and applications of the mechanical motion of substances under explosion and impact loads. Initiated by Qian Xuesen and developed by Zheng Zhemin, it is the first to set up the major of explosive mechanics in the Department of Modern Mechanics of China University of Science and Technology. Since Zhu presided over the teaching and research department of explosion mechanics from 65438 to 0963, he has made important pioneering contributions to the development of explosion and impact mechanics in China for 30 years.
As a new discipline and major, there are no ready-made textbooks at home and abroad. Zhu Qin is devoted to research and discussion, and has successively opened new courses such as elastic dynamics, plastic dynamics, shock wave physics, explosive solid mechanics and nonlinear waves, and has written a large number of lectures. These works were all completed in the difficult period when he suffered from political injustice 19, which is particularly commendable. Although he is not in a hurry to formally publish his own million-word textbook, his painstaking efforts in this field have played an important role in cultivating a generation of explosive mechanics talents and promoting the development of explosive mechanics in China through lectures and handouts. He has also been invited to give lectures on plastic theory, modern continuum mechanics, impact dynamics, mesoscopic solid mechanics, etc. in China Academy of Engineering Physics, Institute of Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Nuclear Protection, Beijing Institute of Technology, Jilin University of Technology and the whole country, making these new disciplines spread all over the country.
The Mechanical Problems in Explosion and Impact, which he wrote while giving lectures in Hangzhou on 1984, is the crystallization and representative work of many of his lectures.
In order to promote the academic exchange of explosive mechanics and strengthen the close contact with engineering departments, 1977 Shortly after the Cultural Revolution, he and Ding? Co-chaired the first national conference on explosive mechanics (Huangshan) and gave a report entitled "Present situation and tasks of explosive mechanics".
198 1 gave a report on "explosion shock and nonlinear waves" at the second national conference on explosion mechanics (Yangzhou).
1984 gave a keynote speech entitled "Current Situation and Prospect of High-speed Impact Dynamics" at the First National Conference on Impact Dynamics (Huangshan), and initiated the establishment of "Impact Dynamics Professional Group" of theoretical and applied mechanics Institution in China together with Wang Ren. This indicates that the development of China impact dynamics has entered a new stage.
Zhu has been engaged in the research on the optimal mixture ratio of mixed explosives, the pressure distribution of shock wave in air nuclear explosion, the flyer driven by explosion and other issues directly related to explosion. The systematic work is the study of stress wave propagation and its effect, which is one of the core research directions in explosion and impact. Together with young teachers and students, he went to factories and experimental bases and made large-scale experiments of hundreds of shells exploding in contact with steel plates. He is the first person in China to study the damage accumulation and spalling phenomenon caused by stress waves in solids, determine the relationship between the thickness of main lobe and the thickness of blasting layer, make theoretical analysis and estimation through numerical calculation, and put forward an approximate calculation formula for the thickness of main lobe suitable for engineering application. He, Wang Lili, Yu Jilin and others have established the basic characteristics and laws of elastic-plastic discontinuity in the process of stress wave propagation, which are regarded as valuable creative achievements internationally. Its scientific research achievement "Theory and application of elastic-plastic waves" 1986 won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of China Academy of Sciences. He also studied the dynamic instability caused by stress waves in slender structures, and put forward a dynamic buckling criterion considering the stress wave effect. It was found that with the propagation of stress waves, the structure buckled one after another and the buckling mode changed. This is the first pioneering research that combines stress wave with dynamic buckling.
Combined with the development of impact dynamics, Zhu also actively advocated the study of mechanical properties of materials. In 1950s, he translated Novoselov's Fundamentals of Nonlinear Elasticity and Thales Taylor's Fundamentals of Elasticity and Fluid Dynamics. When he devoted himself to the development of explosion and impact dynamics, he felt more strongly the importance and urgency of studying the mechanical properties of materials in the current mechanical development.
1977, at the second national scientific planning conference, he and Zheng Zhemin put forward the suggestion that the study of mechanical properties of materials should be the focus of mechanical planning. He took the lead in setting up a new course: the theory of constitutive relation of materials, and taught in Kunming, Beijing, Chengdu, Changchun and other places for many times. This textbook won the first prize of excellent textbook of University of Science and Technology of China. Initiated by him, he also held a postgraduate course of modern material mechanics in the University of Science and Technology of China, and trained several groups of talents engaged in the research of material mechanical properties.
In the study of material constitutive relations, he studied the dynamic mechanical properties of metals, polymers, laminates and composites, especially the viscoelastic constitutive behavior of materials under high strain rate and large strain. After more than 65,438+00 years of experimental and theoretical research, Zhu and his collaborators put forward and developed a new nonlinear thermoviscoelastic constitutive model, revealing that the nonlinear viscoelastic behavior of a large number of engineering plastics can be attributed to the combination of nonlinear elasticity in equilibrium and linear viscoelasticity in non-equilibrium state, and each relaxation time parameter representing the linear viscoelastic characteristics of materials only corresponds to an effective strain rate range (jurisdiction). He found that there are "strain rate sensitive peaks" in polymer materials, and these peaks are arranged in a spectrum according to relaxation time. When he first published this result in Tokyo, Japan on 1990 and predicted the correlation between these peaks and vibration internal friction peaks, it attracted the attention of Japanese colleagues. Zhu has been cultivating the education front for 35 years since the 1940s. The characteristics of Chinese University of Science and Technology are that it attaches importance to basic knowledge and faces cutting-edge science. Students have always maintained an atmosphere of pursuing truth and actively learning. Therefore, as soon as Zhu arrived at the newly established school, he began to offer basic courses such as theoretical mechanics, elastic mechanics and vibration theory, and then, according to the needs of emerging space technology, he began to offer more in-depth courses such as nonlinear vibration, random vibration and vibration reduction theory, which laid the foundation for the teaching of space environment simulation specialty in the Department of Geophysics.
1963 has taught elastic dynamics, plastic dynamics, shock wave physics and other courses for students majoring in explosive mechanics, and taught young teachers and graduate students gas dynamics, explosive detonation, material constitutive relation theory, nonlinear waves and so on. He himself often said: "This is forced by the situation and I have to learn new knowledge desperately. Open new courses. " In this way, during his stay at China University of Science and Technology, he almost set a record of opening a new course every year. Every class, he will make his own handouts, and sometimes he will carve his own wax paper and send it to his classmates before class. In order to offer these new courses, he devoted all his time to this work. He often says to young teachers: "Teachers' main working hours are at night, Sunday and holidays. If they don't use these three hours, they can't advance in the ocean of knowledge. "He did it himself.
Zhu Pingping is close to his classmates, loves them and cares about their all-round growth. In his home, you can often see many classmates talking with him about their studies and thinking, all of whom are open-minded and have no scruples. In his own opinion, teachers should always listen to students' reactions, and more importantly, they should feel the vitality and fresh ideas of life from young people. He often takes his classmates to practice in mines and arsenals, eats and lives with them, and leads a hard life. When encountering the danger of a squib in an explosion, he always took the risk of eliminating it himself and prevented the students from doing such a dangerous thing. So his classmates are very close to him and have deep feelings.
Zhu attaches great importance to the cultivation of young teachers and graduate students. He learned how to train young people and lead scientific research from Su, a teacher of Zhejiang University. Through collective discussion, teaching and learning learn from each other, encourage young people to broaden their knowledge, occupy new fields, find growth points, and actively carry out research on new problems. In just a few years, the explosion mechanics major of the Chinese University of Science and Technology has become a distinctive team in the field of mechanics.
When Zhu was in charge of the Department of Modern Mechanics in China University of Science and Technology, he worked hard to implement the teaching policy of strengthening basic knowledge education and broadening the scope of specialty, and strengthened the education of basic knowledge of mathematics and physics in undergraduate education. According to Qian Xuesen's instruction that "the four major mechanics in physics are the foundation of modern mechanics", undergraduates in mechanics department are required to take thermodynamics and statistical physics as compulsory courses, and quantum mechanics can be taken as an elective course if conditions permit. He also pointed out that in the undergraduate teaching of mechanics department, it is necessary to break the professional boundaries and list elastic mechanics, fluid mechanics and vibration mechanics as compulsory courses for all undergraduates, so that mechanics department can cultivate talents with strong stamina, adaptability and creativity.
Zhu's contribution during his tenure as the first president of Ningbo University more intensively reflected his school-running thoughts and the achievements of educational reform. Ningbo University was established under the background of reform and opening up, which provided a position for the implementation of educational reform. With the support of leaders at all levels, the understanding and support of Tan, honorary president of Ningbo University, and the full cooperation of colleagues, Zhu has built Ningbo University into a comprehensive university that has begun to take shape and embodies the spirit of reform in just a few years.
Zhu has repeatedly brewed and inspected the construction of a new comprehensive Ningbo University, which has been supported by a famous Hong Kong businessman who is returning to his hometown for inspection. He decided to donate a huge sum of money to establish Ningbo University in his hometown.
In the proposal, Zhu emphasized that "Ningbo University should be a new comprehensive university" and that "the knowledge system including humanities (social science), science (natural science) and engineering (technical science) should also include medicine, agriculture, commerce and arts. If possible in the future, "it is convenient to adapt to the new era of knowledge explosion and technological revolution and develop emerging frontier disciplines." In particular, he pointed out: "In universities, it is mainly to cultivate students' self-study ability and independent work ability, so that students can cope with complex and changeable social life after graduation and have the ability to constantly update their knowledge. Therefore, students' majors should be wide, and too narrow a major can easily lead to rigid thinking and aging knowledge. Therefore, in Ningbo University, there are generally only departments and no majors. "
Zhu didn't expect that the proposal to build a school could be adopted so quickly; Unexpectedly, a year later, all provinces, cities and the central government unanimously asked him to be the principal. In his later years, he had to put down his beloved scientific research work and return to his hometown to devote himself to the heavy school-building work and realize the school-running ideas put forward in his planning.
At the beginning of its establishment, this university set up eight departments, including foreign languages, economics, law, mathematics, physics, civil engineering, machinery and electronics, forming the embryonic form of a new comprehensive university. In order to broaden students' knowledge, the school has really realized the idea of setting up departments without distinguishing majors, and has also implemented a wide selective credit system to encourage students to choose courses across departments. The school emphasizes basic education and attaches importance to the application and training of foreign languages and computers. However, there is no basic department in the school, but all departments are invited to start classes for the whole school.
In Ningbo University, Zhu emphasized that teaching is the central work of the school, and that teaching and scientific research should be closely combined and promoted, which affirmed the leading role of teachers in teaching and scientific research. All the management work of the school must serve the central task of ensuring teaching and educating people. He believes that relying on teachers to run schools is the embodiment of the party's mass line and democratic style in school work and the concrete realization of the policy of respecting knowledge and intellectuals. Therefore, major issues of the school are submitted to various committees and meetings of department heads with teachers as the main body for discussion and deliberation. Academically, it encourages free discussion and a hundred schools of thought contend.
Zhu believes that what Ningbo University wants to cultivate is the social backbone talents needed by socialist modernization, which refers to people who are sharp in ideology and culture, advanced in science and technology, broad in knowledge, or have the ability to organize and operate, good at coping with the ever-changing situation in the information society, and able to work independently and creatively. Therefore, he attaches great importance to the construction of school spirit, advocates carrying forward the tradition of "seeking truth from facts and applying practical experience" in eastern Zhejiang, takes "honesty, diligence, innovation and service" as the school motto, encourages students to develop morally, intellectually, physically and aesthetically, cultivates students' awareness and ability of self-reliance, self-esteem and self-discipline, supports students' work-study programs, and encourages students to participate in social practice.
It is under the guidance of the above-mentioned school-running concept that Ningbo University has taken the first step towards forming a vibrant, scientific, democratic, United and harmonious teaching and research environment in just a few years. 1990 When the first class of students graduated, they passed the evaluation and acceptance by the Higher Education Commission and an expert group composed of dozens of professors from Hangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing, which fully affirmed the remarkable achievements made by Ningbo University in running schools and reforming education. China News Agency reported on the topic of "Dark Horse in Colleges and Universities in China". The "dark horse" mentioned here is the Chinese translation of English dark horse, which means the horse that won unexpectedly at the racecourse. Metaphor Ningbo University has amazing potential. When Zhu was invited to attend the first graduation ceremony, teachers and students welcomed him with endless warm applause. This applause not only embodies the gratitude of teachers and students for his hard work day and night to create a new university when he is over 80 years old, but also pays tribute to his dedication of "holding a heart without a blade of grass" and expresses their strong support and affirmation for his school-running policy and reform direction.
Zhu's achievements during his tenure as president of Ningbo University are inseparable from his ideological emancipation after the suffering of the "Cultural Revolution". In his own view, it was the first ideological emancipation in his life to be baptized by the May 4th new trend of thought when he entered high school. When he was in high school, accepting Marxism was the second ideological emancipation; After the "Cultural Revolution", taking "practice is the only criterion for testing truth" as the ideological weapon, it should be the third ideological emancipation in his life to get rid of all superstitions that have been tested by practice and should be abandoned. He believes that after this ideological emancipation, he began to really think independently and submit to Marxist truth. In the process of building Ningbo University, he repeatedly advocated the spirit of seeking truth from facts advocated by Zhu Kezhen when he founded Zhejiang University, that is, longing for the truth, pursuing the truth, upholding the truth, taking reason as the basis, not blindly following, not echoing and not being arbitrary. This is exactly what Zhu tried to practice in establishing Ningbo University and engaging in teaching and scientific research.
