Effectively changing the role of teachers in college English classroom teaching

In order to improve students' quality and make them have strong English language ability and practical application level, teachers should completely give up the backward concept of taking myself as the main body and one person in charge, and make thorough changes in curriculum, teaching methods, time arrangement and role relationship, and put students at the center of English teaching as the main body of teaching activities. Emphasizing student-centered classroom teaching does not mean ignoring the role of teachers. Students can learn anything they want in class. Students organize their own classroom activities. Instead, it emphasizes that teachers should design the most suitable classroom teaching activities after learning more about students' individual knowledge structure and needs, and let more students actively participate in them through classroom communication.

Meihan believes that "teachers should first be organizers, supervisors and evaluators of classroom teaching".

[2] Organizers rather than mere lecturers, teachers should maximize students' language practice opportunities and participate in classroom teaching activities on the principle of teaching language skills rather than instilling language knowledge. Teachers' organizational role is mainly manifested in collecting information about classroom teaching practice activities before class, and combining the language level and

Appropriate classroom teaching activities need to be arranged. Teachers are also evaluators. They can not only point out students' mistakes and help correct them, but also evaluate their performance.

2. Cultivate students' autonomous learning ability

Learner autonomy is developed in the reflection and exploration of traditional teaching methods. Autonomous learning highlights the main role of students in the teaching process, which makes a series of factors such as curriculum, textbook compilation, classroom activities and teacher's decision-making develop in the direction of adapting to individual differences and individual needs of students. The cultivation of autonomous learning ability does not deny the importance of imparting language knowledge. However, for a long time, teaching has generally been "teaching-centered" and "teaching materials-centered", and teachers only "teach people to fish" rather than "teach people to fish", which stifles students' enthusiasm and creativity in learning. In order to change this situation, teachers should reflect students' intelligence level and situational level as much as possible in the design and arrangement of classroom teaching, and provide a place, atmosphere and methods for students to give full play to their imagination and creativity and learn independently. For example, in college English intensive reading teaching, the proportion of students' autonomous learning should be increased as much as possible, so that students can find problems in the process of autonomous learning, and teachers can deal with the text in the form of answering questions. This can not only reduce students' dependence on teachers, but also enhance students' ability to analyze and solve problems with their brains. In addition, teachers can also recommend and guide the use of some extracurricular self-study materials with moderate difficulty as needed.
