Xiamen University, or XMU for short, is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and the Central Government of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a world-class university construction university (Class A) and a national key construction university of "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project".
Xiamen University was founded on 192 1 by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in China's modern education history, one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students, and the first university in China to build an independent campus overseas. Its early buildings were selected as the national key cultural relics protection units and the first batch of China 20th century architectural heritage, and were praised as "the strongest in the South" and "the most beautiful university in China".
The headquarters of Xiamen University is located at the southern end of Xiamen Island, No.422 Siming South Road, Siming District, Xiamen, covering an area of about 2,500 mu. The school is known as one of the most beautiful university campuses in China, with Nanputuo Temple on one side and the seaside and Fort Hu Lishan on the other.
There are scenic spots such as Furong Lake and Lover Valley Reservoir on the campus of Xiamen University, and there is a saying that "love is in Xiamen University". Most of the old buildings in Xiamen University were built by Mr. Chen Jiageng's son-in-law. The drywall and glazed ceiling are very distinctive, and they are called "wearing a suit and hat" (a metaphor for the architectural style of combining Chinese and western styles), especially the construction of the South Auditorium and the roundabout are quite magnificent.
