Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1958, formerly known as Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2006, it was renamed Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 20 17, the school entered the ranks of world-class universities and first-class discipline construction universities.

In 2020, the school became a university jointly established by Tianjin Municipal People's Government, Ministry of Education and state administration of traditional chinese medicine. In 2022, the school became the second round of "double first-class" construction colleges and universities. The school is the only China International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine approved by the former State Education Commission, and is the chairman of the Education Steering Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.

The school has Jinghai Tuanbo Campus and Nankai Yuquan Road Campus. The main campus is located in Tuanbo Lake, Jinghai District, Tianjin, covering an area of more than 2,600 mu and a construction area of more than 600,000 square meters. The campus is characterized by lake landscape, traditional Chinese medicine vegetation and traditional Chinese medicine culture. It is the largest Chinese medicine botanical garden, the most advanced Chinese medicine science and technology park and an international education center of Chinese medicine with international influence in China.

There are full-time undergraduates1210/person, 40 graduate students19 and 559 international students. The school (including affiliated hospitals) has 3,967 faculty members. At present, there are 3 academicians of China Academy of Engineering (including 1 part-time), 2 masters of traditional Chinese medicine, 5 famous Chinese medicine practitioners and 1 teaching master.

There are six disciplines in the school, with Chinese medicine as the main body and the coordinated development of medicine, science, literature, management, engineering and teaching, with a total of 3 1 undergraduate majors. It has a national "double-first-class" discipline of TCM construction, two national key disciplines of TCM internal medicine and acupuncture and tuina, and 23 key disciplines of state administration of traditional chinese medicine.

It has a number of high-level talents, such as leading talents of the State Special Support Program, famous teachers of the State Special Support Program, distinguished professor of the Yangtze Scholar Award Program of the Ministry of Education, winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, top-notch young talents of the State Special Support Program, national model teachers, famous teachers of Chinese medicine colleges and universities, etc. The Ministry of Education has three innovative teams.
