Located at the main entrance of Wuhan University, it is one of the landmark buildings of Wuhan University. Because it is a reinforced concrete pouring structure, it is not a historical relic. As a historical relic, the old building of Wuda University was built in 1930s, located in the Quanyechang at the intersection of Wuchang Street. This time, the school gate was demolished to cooperate with the underground passage construction of Wuchang Bayi Road and the docking of Wuda North and South Campus. The new archway will be rebuilt near the original site in one year.

The first school gate was built in 193 1, with the front facing Wu Luo Road and the back facing Luojiashan Campus. This is a beautiful wooden arch. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by a sudden tornado shortly after it was built.

1937, the school rebuilt a reinforced concrete archway on the original site, which is now located in Quanyechang. It is a mystery who wrote the word "National Wuhan University" on the front of the rebuilt archway. "Some people say it was written by Chiang Kai-shek, while others say it was written by Wang Ching-wei. In fact, this is all misinformation. " Tu Youyou said that it is also credible that the author of the second edition of the memorial arch name should be Xiao Junjiang, then a professor of mathematics at Wuhan University.

In the 1970s, the words "National Wuhan University" on the old building were covered by Mao leaders and replaced with the words "Wuhan University". "The school names of these four words were not written by Mao's leadership for Wu Da, but were hidden." Tu Youyou said, 195 1 year, there was a student named in the Agricultural College of Wuhan University, and his family established a revolutionary friendship with Mao leaders at an early age. After Chen Wenxin entered the school, he wrote a letter to Mao and reported his learning experience. 195 1 in may, Mao wrote a personal letter to me, and even the address of the recipient on the envelope was written by Mao himself, so the word "Wuhan University" was taken from the word "Wuhan University" written by Mao on the envelope at that time.

1983 On the occasion of the celebration of Wuhan University, the word "Wuhan University" on the old memorial archway was replaced by the word "National Wuhan University" inscribed by calligrapher Cao Lian, and the words "grammar, science and technology, agriculture and medicine" were written by Liu Wei, a famous professor of Chinese Department of Wuhan University at that time, and changed back to the original historical school name, which has been used ever since.

From 1980s to 1993, the school gate of Wuda University was 1 km away from the old building. At that time, there were only four thick cement columns at the main school gate of Bayi Road. 1993 During the centenary celebration of Wuhan University, Shenzhen Alumni Association and other alumni at home and abroad raised funds, and Wuhan University "copied" a new archway by copying the style of the old building at the present gate.

It is said that the original archway of Wuhan University is now dusty, leaving only helplessness and memories. What stands today is an imitation. Although it is not the original old building, as a landmark building of Wuhan University, it still brings some good memories.
