Message from College Counselors to Freshmen

When you walk into the door of a university, you are a college student. Once a middle school student became a college student, which shows that you are mature in academic thinking. Most children are close to 18 years old and become adults. But in the process of this transformation, you will encounter many problems that need to be solved by yourself. I wonder if you are ready. As a counselor and teacher, I really want to communicate with you and share what I see and think with you, which may be helpful to you.

First, know yourself.

The original me: middle school students, with parents to worry about, only pay attention to their studies, there is no room for thinking about other things. Learning is their whole life. In their own eyes, society is just external and seems to have little to do with themselves. This is because of parental control. Most children who come out of the current education system only pay attention to learning and lack other abilities. Maybe they have strong learning ability, weak life ability, weak communication ability and weak aesthetic ability.

College me: College students, without parents, have to do everything by themselves. Without the control of middle school teachers, they have to plan their own studies. You need to be independent in your life ability and think independently in your studies. First of all, you should be clear about your weaknesses, where I didn't do well enough, and you should strengthen training. You can consult college students and learn about college life from them.

Second, understand the university-loose management and free students.

University is different from middle school. There is only one counselor in each class, who is the head teacher. Generally, the student class committee manages the class, and the students manage themselves. Teachers only teach subjects, leave after class and rarely communicate with students. How to learn depends on the students themselves, and whether to attend classes depends on self-discipline. Although the system requires attending classes on time, it is difficult to restrain free college students with loose management methods. It is natural that many students are absent from class and fail. Freshmen and sophomores are usually spent playing, and it's a little late for juniors and seniors. Their idea is not to fail the course, they just need to study hard in the last month, and they think they can cope, so there are many failures. However, there are also some excellent students who know what they are doing and what they should participate in after four years. Therefore, they study very hard, plan their studies, arrange their time reasonably, and constantly improve their abilities in all aspects to lay a solid foundation for the realization of their future goals. Such children have the ability of self-adjustment, can know themselves and work hard for them, can adapt to school management and enjoy learning. This is a wise move.

Third, I was four years later.

Four years later, I am faced with a career choice, what kind of work I want to do, what I like to do, and what ability I have now. These are all things you should prepare in college. If you choose to find a job, then you have to take some exams. At present, the most popular examination is the civil service examination, as well as the recruitment examination of various institutions, national, provincial, municipal and district. All levels of' recruiting people' need to take a unified exam, and this exam is very strict. Can you pass the written test? Can you pass the interview? Are you ready? If you can prepare well, then you can stand out in many people's exams, and that's one in a thousand, which is quite difficult. Maybe you are good at your studies and want to enter a high-level university, then graduate students are your choice, and the employment rate of graduate students is relatively high. Many good units only need graduate students, and even some good positions need doctoral students. Postgraduate entrance examination and examination of civil servants are problems to be faced in four years. Are you ready? If you can't do these two things by yourself, what do you choose to do? Maybe some industries directly recruit college students, such as insurance companies, security guards and so on. However, this kind of recruitment treatment is different from that of official civil servants, and their social status is different. If you want to have a future life, you should work for it now. No matter what the result is, as long as I work hard for it, just like the college entrance examination that year, I participated and worked hard, so I won't regret it. The rest of your life depends on your own efforts, so let's start from college. University is to save energy and prepare for future employment. Take good care of it and cherish every day in college!
