Founded in 1958, Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the earlier institutions of higher learning in China. Its predecessor was 1955, the Henan Provincial School of Traditional Chinese Medicine founded in Kaifeng. The school is located in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital, with four campuses: Longzihu Campus, Dongming Road Campus, Renmin Road Campus and Dongfeng Road Campus, covering an area of 1594.94 mu. The building area is 6 1.88 million ㎡, and the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 379 million yuan.

It is a university jointly established by the People's Government of Henan Province and state administration of traditional chinese medicine, a university under the National Central and Western Higher Education Revitalization Plan, a university for training scholarship students from the China Government of the Ministry of Education, a "5+3" integrated enrollment institution for Chinese medicine majors of the Ministry of Education, a national international cooperation base for Chinese medicine, a doctoral degree authorized unit and a provincial civilized unit.
