The Institute of Physical Education of Yunnan University for Nationalities was established on the basis of the former Physical Education Department of Yunnan University for Nationalities. In September, 2000, the Department of Physical Education was established, and started to offer undergraduate majors in physical education. In August, 2002, she was affiliated to the School of Ethnic Culture of Yunnan University for Nationalities. In August 2003, it was listed as a physical education institute. It is the first physical education institute established in the national university for nationalities.
