Shanxi Datong University, referred to as "Datong University" or "Datong University" for short, is a multidisciplinary university in Shanxi Province, located in Datong, a famous historical and cultural city. It is the first batch of pilot universities of "Excellent Doctoral Education and Training Plan" in China, the only university built in Shanxi Province (Shanxi Provincial Department of Education and Datong Municipal People's Government), the selected university of "133 1 project" in Shanxi Province, the first batch of pilot universities of application-oriented transformation in Shanxi Province, the first batch of grassroots legislative contact points of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, and the municipal local legislative research and consulting base. The core member units of the New Energy Industry and Technology Research of Datong General Practitioner Alliance are the main members of the National Alliance, the Shanxi Higher Medical Education Resource Alliance and the "Wu" Higher Education Alliance, and they are the cooperative institutions of the School Planning and Construction Development Center of the Ministry of Education and Phoenix Education's "Innovative Application Demonstration Base for the Integration of Digital Media Production and Education in Colleges and Universities" project.

The history of Datong University in Shanxi can be traced back to 1950s. Approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2006, it was formed by the merger of the former Yanbei Normal College, Datong Medical College, Datong Vocational and Technical College and Shanxi Industrial Vocational and Technical College. On May 20 18, with the approval of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, the school officially became a master's degree awarding unit.
