Beijing university of chemical technology, formerly known as Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology, was founded in 1958. It is a high-level university established in New China to "train advanced chemical technicians needed for the development of frontier science".

Since 200 1, 32 scientific research projects have won the third prize of national science and technology, 3 innovation research groups of national natural science foundation and 6 innovation teams of Changjiang scholars of Ministry of Education, ranking among the best in domestic universities.
