Chongqing University of Science and Technology is a full-time public undergraduate college, which was formed by the merger of Chongqing Institute of Technology and Chongqing Petroleum Institute, two schools directly under the former central ministries and commissions. It started running on 195 1 and has maintained a good reputation. It was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in May 2004.

The school is the pilot unit of the National Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program, the vice-chairman unit of the National Universities of Applied Sciences (College) Alliance, the vice-chairman unit of the National Newly-established Undergraduate Colleges Alliance and the chairman unit of the Chongqing University Transformation and Development Alliance.

It is a high-level new engineering university supported by Chongqing, and it is rated as a national typical experience university of innovation and entrepreneurship and a national demonstration university for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.

The school focuses on engineering, featuring petrochemical industry, metallurgy and materials, machinery and electronics, safety and environment. Science, engineering, economics, management, law, literature and art develop in harmony, with outstanding industry advantages and distinctive school-running characteristics.

Actively carry out cooperative education and scientific research at home and abroad, and cooperate with Napier University in Edinburgh, University of Illinois at Chicago, university of regina, Haig Heiliye University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Hans University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, Netherlands, Veracruz University in Mexico, Jingbei University in Korea and Changwon University in Korea.

Central University of Taiwan Province Province, Chongqing University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Youshi University in China, Southwest Petroleum University, Xi 'an University of Science and Technology and PLA Army Logistics College have established cooperative relations in teaching, scientific research and personnel training.
