Tibet University for Nationalities is the first institution of higher learning established by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in China for Tibet after the peaceful liberation of Tibet. Its predecessor was Tibet Public School founded in 1958.
1965 was renamed Tibet Institute for Nationalities with the approval of the State Council. 20 15 was renamed Tibet University for Nationalities with the approval of the Ministry of Education. There are 9966 full-time students, including 669 graduate students, and 50% are Tibetan and other minority students.
Tibet University for Nationalities, located in Xianyang, an ancient capital on the Weihe River, is the first batch of institutions approved by the State Council to confer bachelor's degrees. It is a university founded by the People's Government of Xizang Autonomous Region and the State Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs. The first phase of the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions was selected as universities, and East China Normal University provided counterpart support to universities, which was a model university for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education in the country.
Tibet University for Nationalities cooperated with Fudan University to establish the research base of plateau medicine and genetic geography, and cooperated with Northwest University for Nationalities to establish the National Ethnic Affairs Commission of China-the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education-the research center of Tibetan language resources construction.
In cooperation with the Center for Journalism and Social Development, the key research base of the Ministry of Education of Renmin University of China, the Tibet Institute for Journalism, Communication and Social Development was established.
