My career goal is to eventually become a qualified environmental engineer across academia and industry. I hope I can promote the development of the world at the same time by doing research in the laboratory and dealing with real-world obstacles in the industry? Study environmental problems and advise NGOs to abide by laws and regulations to prevent accidents and implement wastewater treatment systems. Finally, I hope my job will increase the society? The United States is aware of local and worldwide environmental problems, such as destructive acid rain or global warming.
I think the best way to achieve career goals is to study for a master's degree first? Here, I will have a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges we are facing now, the most accurate scientific explanation of how these challenges appear, and the most advanced remedial technology.
After completing the master's degree? I want to continue my studies and get a doctorate in environmental engineering, because the problems in this field are very complicated, and different problems keep appearing, and even trying to solve them may cause new troubles. I also believe that engaging in advanced research will better train myself and serve my future career. I am most interested in the treatment and control of harmful substances and solid waste. My other research interests include remediation of contaminated soil and sediments, phytoremediation and bioremediation.
My research interest stems from two projects I participated in in the second and third years of undergraduate study. The first project is the stabilization of heavy metal pollution in Xiangjiang River sediment. My task is to analyze the forms of metals in sediment samples and determine their contents, from which I developed the skills of total analysis and the understanding of leaching toxicity testing procedures. The second project is to study the effect of exogenous Cd on urease in red soil. This project is complicated and difficult. I am only responsible for preparing preparations and analyzing data for professors. Nevertheless, I have improved my ability to process and analyze data. In addition, I also carried out my own experimental project to test the environmental effects of solar cells in order to participate in the national challenge cup competition. In the thesis, I studied the economic benefits brought by solar cells and how they will positively affect our environment.
I believe Purdue University is the best place for my further study. I was particularly attracted by the research on "the influence of organic compounds on the migration of heavy metals in soil" conducted by Professor Schwab, Professor Zhu and Professor Banks of Purd ue. I believe that joining such a research group composed of experts will enrich my college experience to the greatest extent and expand my research ability. In addition, I am interested in learning more about phytoremediation and bioremediation, which is Purdue University's strength, which is another reason why Purdue University has become my dream school.
