Bethel Hospital, the predecessor of the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, was established in 192 1. 1952 was renamed Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, and 1964 officially became the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Second Medical University. It's a third-class first-class hospital.

The hospital has nearly 3973 employees. The Ninth Hospital now has three academicians from China Academy of Engineering: Zhang, a famous orthopedic expert, Qiu, an expert in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and a professor of orthopedics.

Ward space and layout should be implemented in accordance with relevant regulations, bed spacing and the space around the bed should meet the needs of carts and wheelchairs to pass, stop and maneuver, and there should be no excessive sundries in the disinfection buffer zone or fire aisle outside the door.
