The Institute of Physical Education of Southwest University was formerly the National Women's Teachers College, which was established in 1940. 1950 With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the National Women's College and Sichuan Education College merged to form Southwest Normal College and set up a special physical education department. 195 1 year, the sports specialty students of Chongqing University were merged into Southwest Normal University, and Southwest Normal University established the sports specialty students in 1959. 1978 approved by the Sichuan provincial education commission, Southwest Normal University formally established the Department of Physical Education, and 1985 was renamed the Department of Physical Education of Southwest Normal University. 1993, Physical Education College of Southwest Normal University was established. In July, 2005, with the merger of the two universities, it was renamed the Physical Education College of Southwest University.

The School of Physical Education of Southwest University has first-class facilities, including five track and field venues, three tennis centers and three swimming pools, as well as a basketball court, a badminton court and a sports complex.

Physical education major is an undergraduate major under the discipline of education, focusing on cultivating applied physical education talents, and can engage in physical training, physical management and social sports work guidance.
