The reasons for the small number of colleges and universities in Hainan Province are as follows:

Secondly, although there are fewer college entrance examination candidates in Hainan than in other provinces such as Guangdong and Sichuan, it is also a factor that affects the establishment of colleges and universities. However, relative to the number of candidates, economic level is also an important factor. For example, Shenzhen has successfully built a high-level university-Shenzhen University through investment, although it does not have profound educational and historical resources.

In addition, Hainan is positioned as a "tourist island" and attaches importance to environmental protection, which also limits the development of some industries to some extent. Because of the shortage of talents, new technology-based industries can't stand in Hainan, and low wages and soaring prices are also reasons.

Hainan University:

Hainan University is a comprehensive key university which was merged from South China University of Tropical Agriculture and Hainan University in August 2007. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial People's Government.

Hainan University has 36 colleges with more than 4 1000 full-time students, including more than 33,000 undergraduates, more than 7,000 masters, nearly 600 doctoral students and more than 300 international students.
