According to the latest statistics, there are two public universities in Anhui: Anhui Normal University, Anhui University of Science and Technology, Anhui Agricultural University, Anhui Medical University, Anhui University of Technology, Hefei Normal University, Anhui University of Science and Technology and Huainan Normal University.

Anhui Normal University (abbreviated as "Anhui Normal University", abbreviated as "An Normal University" or "An Teacher", named Anhui Normal University in English, abbreviated as AHNU in English) is a provincial-level key comprehensive university and a key construction university with high level of Anhui characteristics established by the people's government of Anhui Province and the Ministry of Education, and has been selected as one of the national "Basic Capacity Building Project of Central and Western Universities" and the "Excellent Teacher Training Plan".

It is a university jointly established by the Emergency Management Department of Anhui Province and People's Republic of China (PRC), and supported by the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions of China.

Anhui Agricultural University, located in Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province, is a university with a long history, which was built by the provincial government in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau. It is one of the first ten universities in China to build a "New Rural Development Research Institute", a "Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in the Midwest" and a "high local characteristics" university in Anhui Province.

Anhui Medical University, located in Hefei, Anhui Province, China, is a key university in Anhui Province. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, National Health Commission and Anhui Province. It was approved as a pilot university for comprehensive reform of "three rounds of education" in Anhui Province and a demonstration university for party building work in the whole province.
