How many quantum interfaces did Tsinghua scholars first realize quantum entanglement?
On the 27th, it was learned from Tsinghua University that Professor Duan's research group of the Institute of Cross Information in our university has made important progress in the field of quantum information, and achieved quantum entanglement among 25 quantum interfaces for the first time.

The research paper of this achievement, Experimental Realization of Entanglement between 25 Independent Controllable Quantum Interfaces, was published in the sub-journal Science on April 20th. Progress. The number of entangled quantum interfaces far exceeds the previous world record of four quantum interfaces entangled by the research group of California Institute of Technology.

The first author of this paper is Pu, a doctoral student at Tsinghua University Institute of Interdisciplinary Information, and the correspondent is Professor Duan. Other authors include Jiang Nan, Chang Wei, Chang Li, John Zhang and Wu Yukai, a doctoral student at Tsinghua University Institute of Cross Information.

In quantum information science, photons have the fastest transmission speed and are the best carriers for spreading quantum information, while atoms have a long quantum coherence time and are widely used to store quantum information. Quantum interface connects photons and storage atoms to realize efficient conversion of quantum information between different carriers.

In order to realize more entanglement between quantum interfaces and build a larger quantum entanglement network, Duan's research group developed a novel two-dimensional quantum interface array in five years, which can easily realize entanglement between multiple quantum interfaces. Researchers have prepared many-body quantum entangled states by beam splitting technique. In 25 quantum interfaces, the experiment proves that there are at least 22 real entangled states with high confidence by entanglement criterion, which sets a new world record for the number of entangled states in quantum interfaces.

"science? A commentator of Progress said: "This is a record entanglement number and an important milestone in the process of establishing the first quantum network. Another reviewer's opinion is: "This experiment defines the highest level of quantum interface between atoms and photons at present, and I believe this result will have an important impact in the field of quantum information. "

Experts said: Quantum computers represent the direction of information technology and have an important impact on information security and artificial intelligence. Realizing entanglement between quantum interfaces is the basic requirement for constructing quantum networks and future quantum Internet. It is possible to realize more entanglement between quantum interfaces in the future, and it is also expected that more young scholars will join.
