Suzhou University of Science and Technology is located in Suzhou, a famous historical and cultural city known as "paradise on earth". It was formed by the merger of the former Suzhou Institute of Urban Construction and Environmental Protection and the former Suzhou Railway Teachers College. It is a full-time ordinary university with coordinated development of science, engineering, culture and management, and an excellent university evaluated by the Ministry of Education.
The school has 14 teaching units such as School of Architecture and Urban Planning, and 58 undergraduate majors such as architecture, among which three majors such as urban and rural planning, civil engineering and environmental engineering are national professional construction points.
At present, there are 1 national college students' cultural quality education base, 1 national college students' scientific and technological entrepreneurship practice base, 1 national off-campus practice education base, and six featured majors listed as key majors in Jiangsu Province during the Twelfth Five-Year Plan period. Three majors, including urban and rural planning, civil engineering and history, were approved as the first phase project of brand specialty construction in Jiangsu Province, and five majors, including civil engineering, passed the higher education major.
In 2003, it was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as an authorized unit for master's degree. At present, there are 12 authorized points for master's degree in first-level disciplines and 3 professional master's categories, allowing people with the same academic qualifications to apply for master's degrees. At present, six disciplines in the school have been selected into the construction project of dominant disciplines in Jiangsu Province, and five disciplines are key disciplines in Jiangsu Province. The school has 4 provincial key laboratories, 4 provincial engineering technology research centers, 2 provincial key research bases of humanities and social sciences, 7 municipal key laboratories and 10 other municipal platforms.
