The name of the school is taken from the biography of Shangshu Yu Xia. The sun and the moon are bright, but the sky is full of clouds, and the clouds are gathering. The sun and the moon shine on the earth every day. The original meaning of the word "Fudan" in the two sentences is the pursuit of light, which means running schools independently and rejuvenating China. Intended to strive for self-improvement, it pinned the hope of China intellectuals to run their own schools and educate a strong country at that time.

Fudan University was founded in 1905 and formerly known as Fudan College. It is the first institution of higher learning independently established by China people. The founder was educator Ma, and the first director was Sun Yat-sen. ..

School history

19 13 years, Lee Teng-hui became the principal until 1936. During his 23 years as president, Fudan University has developed into a well-known and distinctive private university, cultivating applied talents in business, economy, journalism, education and civil engineering, and forming a complete school-running system from middle school to graduate school.

1937 after the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, some teachers and students of Fudan University moved to Beibei, Chongqing under the leadership of President Wu Nanxuan.

1942, with the approval of the Executive Yuan of the National Government, Fudan was changed from private to state-owned on New Year's Day, and it was also called National Fudan University, with Wu Nanxuan and Zhang Yi as presidents successively.

1in the summer of 946, Chongqing school moved back to the original site of Jiangwan in Shanghai and merged with Shanghai school, further expanding its scale.

From 65438 to 0954, Yang Xiguang became the Party Secretary of Fudan University. 1956 Fudan's first party congress was held.

During the "Great Leap Forward" from 65438 to 0958, the Department of Science of Fudan University established new majors such as computational mathematics, mechanics, nuclear physics, radiochemistry, radio electronics, biophysics and biochemistry.
