According to the school's own standards, although Central South University of Forestry and Technology is not "double-class" or 2 1 1, it is indeed a proper key university and a provincial key university managed by Hunan Province. The school is jointly established by the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau and Hunan Province, and also has the qualification of walking graduate students. The predecessor of the school is the Central South Forestry College directly under the former Ministry of Forestry. After being placed under the management of Hunan Province, Hunan Agricultural Machinery Research Institute and Hunan Economic Management Cadre College merged one after another.

Located in Changsha City, Hunan Province, it is a university and a provincial key university approved by the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau and the Hunan Provincial People's Government. It has been selected into the national "Basic Capacity Building Project of Colleges and Universities in the Midwest", the outstanding agricultural and forestry talents education and training plan, the "double first-class" construction project of Hunan Province, the national "key discipline project with characteristics", the national postgraduate project of building a high-level university, and Hunan Province 20 1 1.

It is the first provincial university with a graduate school in Hunan Province, covering nine disciplines such as science, engineering, agriculture, literature, economics, law, management, teaching and arts. It is a comprehensive university with the right to confer Post-Doctoral Research Center and doctoral degrees and dismiss graduate students, featuring forestry.
