The predecessor of the school was Jinan School founded by the Qing government in 1906. 1927 was renamed as National Jinan University. 1949 merged into Fudan University, Jiaotong University and other universities in August. 1958, reconstruction of Jinan University. [3]

As of March 2020, the school has five campuses in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, and its headquarters is located in Guangzhou; The campus covers an area of 3 182.4 mu, with a building area of1670,500 square meters.
