The Science and Technology Department of Shanghai Maritime University is responsible for discipline platform construction, science and technology project management, scientific and technological achievements management, intellectual property management and academic exchanges, and provides science and technology management services for all teachers and students.

The Institute of Water Transport Economics of Shanghai Maritime University was formally established with the approval of the Ministry of Communications. There are three research laboratories, namely, port and logistics economy, international shipping and management modernization, and shipping information consulting department, and a master's degree in "technical economy and management".

The Institute of Navigation Science of Shanghai Maritime University belongs to the scientific research and discipline construction base in the navigation field of Merchant Marine College. At present, there are many researchers, including full professors, captains, associate professors, computer and software engineers and other professionals, who can complete various scheduled scientific and technological tasks with good quality and quantity.
