The Central Academy of Drama, referred to as "Chinese Opera", is located in Beijing and directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a national "double-class" construction university. The school originated from Lu Xun Art College, which was established in Yan 'an in 1938. After that, it passed through the College of Literature and Art of North China United University, the Art College of North China University and the three departments of North China University, and was merged into Nanjing National Theatre Academy.
