At the end of 2007, in order to deepen the reform of higher education system and explore a new mode of school-enterprise cooperation, Suzhou University signed a cooperation agreement with Suzhou Golden Mantis Architectural Decoration Co., Ltd., and established the Golden Mantis Urban Construction College of Suzhou University on the basis of the original School of Urban Science of Suzhou University (the public nature of the college remains unchanged, and it is still a public secondary college of Suzhou University). The college has tried a brand-new reform model in school-running system and management system, and has become an "experimental area" for the reform of school education management system. In September 2008, the college was renamed "Golden Mantis College of Architecture and Urban Environment of Suzhou University".
The college now has five undergraduate majors: architecture, architecture (interior design), urban planning, landscape architecture and gardening. He has a master's degree in landscape architecture (engineering and agronomy), a master's degree in agricultural pest control, and two master's degrees in urban architectural design and theory and architectural art design, and recruits doctoral students in design.
The college has 630 full-time undergraduates and nearly 100 graduate students. Among the more than 70 faculty members, there are nearly 60 professional teachers, and 60% of the teachers have doctorates or doctorates. Teachers who have worked and studied abroad account for 35%; There are 8 professors, associate professors 15 and part-time professors 10.
The college now has a modern office teaching laboratory building with a building area of15000m2, complete teaching facilities and superior conditions. The laboratory includes building model laboratory, light environment laboratory, digital and measurement laboratory, photography laboratory, materials and structure laboratory, exhibition room of ancient building construction skills, garden landscape ecological engineering laboratory, plant protection laboratory, biotechnology laboratory, book branch library and so on. At present, the college has research platforms such as Jiangsu Construction and Urban Environment Practice Education Center, Suzhou Key Laboratory of Construction and Urban Environment, Suzhou Garden Heritage Protection Institute and Suzhou Building Green Decoration Engineering Technology Research Center. * * Established UNESCO Asia-Pacific World Heritage Training and Research Center, China Characteristic Urbanization Research Center of the Ministry of Education, and established a postdoctoral mobile station with Golden Mantis Company, with 4 postgraduate workstations and several undergraduate practice bases.
In terms of personnel training, we should pay attention to students' process teaching and strengthen the thinking process of design and vocational training. In the aspect of specialty construction, we will build related majors in the historical and cultural background of Suzhou, strengthen the research on urban design, architectural design, interior design, garden design and ornamental gardening, and cultivate advanced applied talents with cultural background and human settlement environment concept. The College pays attention to the internationalization of running schools, and has signed cooperation and exchange agreements with famous universities at home and abroad, such as City University of Hong Kong, Domus College, Ryerson University and Donghai University in Taiwan Province Province. Students regularly travel to Hong Kong, Macao and Europe and America. The employment rate of students of all majors in the college is above 95%.
The goal of the college is to build a high-level design college integrating production, learning and research. In recent years, the college has made a series of innovations in talent training mode, school-enterprise cooperation mode and specialty construction ideas.
