What is a double first-class university?
"Double first-class" is a high-level university construction project put forward by the Ministry of Education of China on 20 15. The aim is to improve the level of higher education in China and cultivate more outstanding talents with international competitiveness through financial investment, policy support and self-development. Double first-class universities are divided into two levels: Class A and Class B, in which Class A is a "first-class discipline" university and Class B is a "key discipline" university.

At present, Class A is called "double first-class" universities, and Class B is called "double first-class" construction universities. There are not many A-class universities, including Tsinghua, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, University of Science and Technology of China, Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji University, Wuda University, Sichuan University, Xi Jiaotong University and Sun Yat-sen University. These universities have great influence in the field of global higher education, and their discipline strength and scientific research level are also in the forefront of other universities in China.

As "double first-class" universities, these universities will enjoy the advantages of government investment and policy support, have better teaching and research conditions, recruit more teachers, and improve exchange opportunities for foreign cooperation, thus further promoting the development and innovation of higher education in China.
