Guizhou University was founded in 1902, and was named Guizhou University in 1950 and 10 after the period of Guizhou University Hall, provincial Guizhou University, national Guizhou College of Agriculture and Industry and national Guizhou University. 1August 1997, merged with Guizhou Agricultural College and other institutions. In August 2004, it merged with Guizhou University of Technology. In February 2004, it became a university approved by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Guizhou Province.

The school covers an area of 4646 mu, with 985.37 mu of teaching experimental farm. The library has a total of 3.78 million books and 3.66 million e-books. The school has a complete range of disciplines, covering literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, management, law, teaching and art 12.
