Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, founded in 1956, is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning of traditional Chinese medicine established in China after the birth of New China. It is a Chinese medicine institution jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the local government and a key high-level university in Shanghai.

The school has more than 300 faculty members/kloc-0, 4 academicians of the two academies, 2 masters of traditional Chinese medicine, 2 famous old Chinese medicine practitioners in China, 69 famous old Chinese medicine practitioners in Shanghai and more than 700 senior experts and professors. It has trained and transported all kinds of Chinese medicine professionals at all levels for the country, with nearly 8,000 full-time students and alumni in more than 60 countries and regions.

At present, there are 15 undergraduate and specialist majors, including nursing, food hygiene and nutrition, rehabilitation, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, preventive medicine and other majors besides traditional Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine and clinical undergraduate majors. There are eight undergraduate and specialist majors in continuing education.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has been successfully selected into the list of national "double first-class" construction universities. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation results announced by the Ministry of Education, the three disciplines of Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy and integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in our school all entered the highest grade A+ file, becoming the only university in China to obtain three A+ disciplines.
