During 1935, the situation in Beijing became more and more critical. In order to prevent unexpected unfavorable situation, Tsinghua University secretly prepared to move the school to Changsha, and allocated funds to start building a school building at Zuojialong (now located at Central South University) at the foot of Yuelu Mountain.

1937 After the Lugouqiao Incident on July 7, the Nanjing National Government held a series of meetings in Lushan to discuss the war situation. The presidents of Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University did not return to Beijing and Tianjin immediately after the meeting, but stayed in Nanjing and Shanghai for the time being.

On August 28th, the Ministry of Education of the National Government sent letters to Zhang Boling, President of Nankai University, Mei Yiqi, President of Tsinghua University and Jiang Menglin, President of Peking University, respectively, appointing three people as members of the Preparatory Committee of Changsha Temporary University, and the three universities merged in Changsha to form Changsha Temporary University.

On September 10, the Ministry of Education officially announced the establishment of the National Changsha Temporary University by order 16696. More than 200 male students organized a tour group in Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan, with a journey of more than 3,200 miles and lasting 68 days.

On April 2, the Ministry of Education issued a power order to rename the National Changsha Temporary University as the National Southwest United University, and set up 26 departments, 2 specialized courses and 1 elective courses in five colleges of literature, science, engineering, law, business and normal university.

On May 4th, the National Southwest Associated University officially started classes. On June 8, the customs defense arrived at the school, and the school officially opened in July/kloc-0. The school no longer calls it "temporary", indicating the long-term nature of the war of resistance.

1945 August 15, fascist Japan declared its surrender and War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression ended.

1946 On May 4th, National Southwest Associated University held a graduation ceremony, which was announced on July 30th, March. Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University moved back to their original sites, and the Teachers College was set up independently in Kunming, renamed as National Kunming Teachers College 1984 and Yunnan Normal University.
