Charles University was founded in 1348.
Named after Charles IV, king of Rome and Bohemia. Charles University is the oldest university in Central Europe, located in the north of Alps and east of Rhine River, second only to Sorbonne University.
Now, Charles University, which has become a leader in education and science, still maintains her simple tradition. The college has 17 majors and trained more than 37,000 students. From humanities to medicine to natural science, hundreds of experts in various fields have consistently combined teaching with practice. At present, there are 3509 foreign students in Charles University.
Charles University now offers the following two courses:
1. Bachelor's course: 3-4 years of study including internship, when graduation examination and thesis defense will be conducted. Graduates will be awarded a Bachelor's degree (Bc) or a Bachelor of Arts degree (BcA).
Undergraduate majors are: art major; Medicine: the first medical department (engaged in general medical research), the second medical department (engaged in daily medical research) and the third medical department (mainly oriented and preventive medicine); Pedagogy; Social science; Natural science; Mathematics and physics; Physical education; Humanities.
2. Master course: lasting 4 to 6 years. The master's program can also be a two-to three-year bachelor's program, when graduation exams and thesis defense will be held. On this basis, general medicine, veterinary medicine and hygiene must pass the doctoral examination.
The majors of the master's program are: law; Fine arts; Medicine; Pharmacy; Pedagogy; Social science; Natural science; Mathematics and physics; Physical education; Humanities. English teaching majors include: theology, general medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, natural science, mathematics and physics, education, social science (such as economics), physical education and economic research.
Czech is the main teaching language for international students, but most subjects also need to be studied in English, so foreign students can choose to study Czech or English.
Students will receive one-year intensive training in Czech or English at the Language Preparatory Learning Center of Charles University in Prague. The main purpose is to enable students to master a solid language foundation and study specifically for passing the entrance examination.
