Capital Medical University has an eight-year program.

Capital Medical University, referred to as the First Medical University for short, is an institution established by the Beijing Municipal People's Government, the National Health and Wellness Commission and the Ministry of Education. It is a key institution of higher learning in Beijing, and has been selected as one of the first batch of pilot universities in China for "Excellent Doctoral Education and Training Program" and universities for overseas students to receive scholarships from the China Government.

The school has also been selected as the founding members of the National Postgraduate Program for Building High-level Universities, the National Key Discipline Program for Building Universities, the National Talent Training Base for Life Sciences and Technology, the Collaborative Innovation Center of the Department of Brain Disease Prevention and Control, the Beijing Belt and Road National Talent Training Base, the Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance, and the Peking University Excellent Medical Talent Training Alliance.

The school was founded in 1960, formerly known as Beijing Second Medical College; 1985, renamed Capital Medical College; 1986, identified as a key institution in Beijing; 1994, renamed Capital Medical University; 2001February 12, Beijing Union University College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing Medical College and Beijing Staff Medical College merged into the school.

According to the statistics of tertiary disciplines, there are 59 doctoral degree authorization points, 77 master degree authorization points and 9 postdoctoral research mobile stations; Full-time students 15 187, including 6,699 graduate students, 6,945 undergraduate students, 884 vocational college students and 659 international students.
