Gu Sui: Optimism comes from pessimism.
Gu Sui (1897— 1960), whose real name is Gu Baosui and pen name is Bitter Water, was born in Qinghe, Hebei.

Outstanding masters of Chinese studies and literature in the 20th century have made great achievements in the fields of Ci, Qu, philology, phonology, Zen and calligraphy.

Gu Sui passed the entrance examination for the Literature Department of China, Peking University. After graduation, Gu Sui taught China ancient literature in Hebei Normal University, yenching university, Fu Jen Catholic University, China-France University, China University, Beijing Normal University and Hebei University.

For more than forty years, peaches and plums have spread all over the world, and many disciples have long been renowned experts and scholars at home and abroad. Zhou, Zhou, Shi Shuqing are among the outstanding representatives.

Classical poetry is a slightly embarrassing existence at present. For most people in China, they began to recite Tang poems when they started babbling. In their long student life, poetry is often around. But once out of the exam-oriented education system,

Few people will touch poetry again.

This is the sorrow of education and also the sorrow of ancient poetry. At the beginning of the year, popular poetry programs won the attention of a large number of viewers who have a good impression on classical poetry. However, as far as the program rules and the explanations of invited guests are concerned, it is at best an advanced crossword puzzle, which has not been divorced from the poetic impression brought by exam-oriented education.

Poetry in Tang and Song Dynasties is a homesickness shared by everyone in China. Everyone misses poetry more or less. Ancient literati did not necessarily respect the practical articles of Confucian scholars when writing poems. Confucianists look down on rich songs, especially street novels. Poetry has always occupied the highest position in the contempt chain of classical literature. Although many people yearn for this ancient and precious heritage, they don't know how to get in. There must be obstacles in reading the original text directly. Too much annotation and translation will destroy the realm and taste of the original poem. Translation is actually unnecessary. Usually it depends on the interpretation of others, and this interpretation requires a high level of editing.

Since it is an interpretation, it is better to find some people. In the poetry books published in recent years, the ear of grain can not be ignored. Who do you care about? Most of Tongmuxin's fame benefits from Chen Danqing. Many people know Gu Sui because Ye Jiaying published his lecture notes-Gu Sui poetry anthology (also known as China classical poetry).

Gu Sui is a poet, scholar, Zen scholar and calligrapher. He is good at poetry, zaju, novels, rhymes and so on. (He may be the last writer to publish zaju in China), he has many disciples, except for Zhou, a well-known scholar in Dream of Red Mansions, and Guo Yuheng, all his students.

Gu Sui was a typical generalist of that era. Because of his profound knowledge of ancient Chinese, Cai Yuanpei, president of Peking University, read his paper and decided that he didn't have to waste time in the Chinese Department, so he was asked to learn English instead. He loved classical literature and devoted himself to it all his life. But it is by no means the kind that all ages eat, and it lacks sensitivity to the changes of the times. When he was young, he was free and lively and loved social life. Like the young people at that time, he considered himself a member of the new culture camp, worshipped and studied Lu Xun, and wrote new novels himself. Born in the English department, Gu Sui also dabbled in western literature. As Huang Xiaodan said: The value of ears of grain lies in the new literature and the old literature in his thoughts; Contradictions and conflicts between new ideas and old ideas.

The preface of Gu Sui Shi Hua said: "A kind of learning is always related to people's life and life. If a lecturer becomes a slogan or a group, he becomes an idol and loses his original meaning and life. " He analyzed that China's great works in later generations were too personal, and quoted Wang Guowei as saying that the self of Sakyamuni Jesus was "responsible for human sins". He talked about Wang Wei and compared it with Du Fu's poetic style. Speaking of Du Fu, take Mr. Lu Xun and Flaubert as examples. Buddhist scriptures, Bible, western literature, ancient literary theory, impressionism, Nietzsche, etc. As the saying goes, "When the Zen machine is silent, the air is a hundred feet long." For lectures, it is more important to integrate one's reading experience and life experience into the interpretation of ancient poems, in addition to drawing inferences from others.

Gu Sui tells poems, which are told by poets, not ordinary scholars. Ye Jiaying said of him: "Teachers are easy to find, but hard to find". Among knowledge and knowledge, knowledge is more valuable than knowledge. As Mu Xin said, "Without a complete personality, knowledge is covered up." Gu Sui's poems often show the personality cultivation of a classical poet. For today's teachers, it is by no means a scripted lesson. In this respect, Gu Suiping's poems are quite similar to those of the ancients. The ancients had a heavy feeling. Wang Kaiyun commented on Zhang Xiaoxiang's Niannujiao: "There is a spirit of Lingyun in the air, and Dongpo mink has a dusty heart." Gu Sui often compares several poets at the same time, and in a few words, he grabs their throats and touches their pain.

The greatness of the ear of grain is precisely because of its transparency. Western learning and new learning in middle school push the spiritual core of poetry deeper and further, and let more people appreciate the beauty and realm of poetry. He has a famous saying, "lead an optimistic life with a pessimistic mood and do a living career with a lifeless consciousness." Gu Sui pays attention to what is really important in poetry, not other details. "Everything in the world is impermanent, but poetry is immortal, which can compete with heaven and earth for a day."

He used his realm of life to illuminate the supreme realm of classical poetry.
