Yang-En University
Yang-en university was founded by Yang En Foundation 1987 founded by Mr. Wu Qingxing, a patriotic overseas Chinese, and his family, and approved by the State Education Commission as a full-time ordinary institution of higher learning. 1988 is run by the Fujian provincial government. In order to meet the needs of the national education reform, since July 1994, yang-en university has been a pilot project of China's education reform, which is independently run by Yang En Foundation. It is the first private university in China with the qualification of issuing national undergraduate diplomas and granting bachelor's degrees.

The campus is surrounded by mountains and rivers with beautiful scenery and elegant environment. At present, the school covers an area of more than 2,500 mu, with a lake surface of 1.400 mu and a building area of more than 800,000 square meters. All classrooms in the school are equipped with multimedia teaching equipment, advanced network center, computer center, language examination center, modern multifunctional classroom and various laboratories; In addition, the school also has a large library to meet the needs of teaching and scientific research, as well as a cultural and sports center and various sports venues to enrich students' extracurricular activities.

Yang-en university adheres to the principles of strict management, strict management and strict teaching, and carries out modern knowledge education and patriotism education. In August, 20001year, the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese awarded yang-en university the patriotic education base of China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and in May, 2002, the Education Department of Fujian Provincial Government awarded yang-en university the honorary title of "patriotic education base" of Fujian education system.

Yang-en university implements English-Chinese bilingual teaching. In addition to teaching in strict accordance with the various courses prescribed by the Ministry of Education, English and computer teaching are especially strengthened. The school has hired more than 50 experts and professors from the United States, Britain, Canada and other countries to teach at the school, and the proportion of courses taught in English has reached about 50%. The school has offered English and computer courses for four years, and it is stipulated that non-English majors must pass CET-4, CET-6 in yang-en university, CET-6 in China and CET-6 in yang-en university. English majors must pass the National TEM-4 Unified Examination (TEM 4) and TEM 8, as well as the written and oral examinations of specialized English courses designated by the school as the second major course. Since the third grade, all majors in the school have offered "Specialized English Course". Some specialized courses in each major adopt the original English textbooks used by foreign universities, and are taught by foreign experts in English, and English, computer and specialized courses are combined for teaching; Students in the graduating class must also pass the written test and oral test of professional English. The school also stipulates that non-computer majors must pass the Fujian Computer Grade Examination, and computer majors must learn two advanced languages and pass the computer network examination in our school.

As a pilot project of educational reform, yang-en university has been growing in scale, which has been highly valued by the central leadership, the Ministry of Education, the Fujian Provincial Government and the Provincial Department of Education. At present, there are more than 2000 undergraduates/kloc-0. Yang-en university is characterized by openness and internationalization. The school attaches importance to exchanges and cooperation with famous universities at home and abroad. Yang-en university hired teachers with expertise, rich teaching experience, high level and strong dedication at home and abroad to teach in our school. At present, professors and associate professors account for about 50% of the total teachers. Through four years' study, yang-en university has trained senior professionals with solid foundation, innovative spirit and ability, adaptability and strong competitiveness. After graduation, students can directly handle Chinese and English business related to their majors, and can find jobs and start businesses at home and abroad.

Since its establishment, yang-en university has experienced two periods of development. The first development period is the "donation period"; The second development period is the "sole proprietorship private period".

I. Donation period (June 1988 to June 1994)

In fact, "donating money to run an office" is a school-running model of "privately funded schools, which are handed over to the government and managed by the government after completion", and it is an inevitable product under the system of "the sovereignty of running a school belongs to the state". Although the school is public, Mr. Wu still needs to continuously subsidize the operating expenses.

Yang-en university has experienced three stages of development in the summer of charitable donations:

1. The first stage (Yan 'en College of Huaqiao University1June 988 to June 65438+June 0989)

This school is funded by Yang En Foundation, which was founded by Mr. Wu's family. It is jointly run by Fujian Provincial Education Commission and Huaqiao University, and named as Yangen College of Huaqiao University. At this stage, Yang En College is nominally a subordinate college of Huaqiao University, but it is completely independent. The scale of student development is set at 600.

2. The second stage (Yang En College August 1989 to March 1992)

1In August, 989, the State Education Commission agreed that Yang En College should be independent from Huaqiao University. The name of the school is Yang En College (director level). School leaders and teaching staff are equipped by the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government, and are directly managed by the Fujian Provincial Education Commission. Yang En Foundation donated all school supplies to Fujian provincial government.

3. The third stage (yang-en university1March 1992 to1June 1994)

1in March, 1992, the State Education Commission informed the Fujian Provincial Government that "with the approval of the State Council, your province agreed to establish yang-en university on the basis of Yang 'en College", and "it was funded by Mr. Wu Qingxing, run by the State and led by the Fujian Provincial People's Government. During this period of development, the school has four departments, including animal science department, civil engineering department, English department and machinery manufacturing department, among which animal science department is the key discipline in Fujian Province.

Although the specifications of the school are constantly rising, and the State Education Commission and the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government attach more and more importance to yang-en university, the school-running personnel and organizations have never formed a strong school-running team, and the outdated school-running system, rigid school-running model and imprisoned school-running ideas are all tightly binding the development of yang-en university.

Second, the period of sole proprietorship and private ownership (yang-en university started from July 1994).

In order to meet the needs of the national education reform, the State Education Commission 1993 made a special trip to Yang 'en Foundation, suggesting that Mr. Wu run a school alone and turn yang-en university into a private university as a pilot of the national education reform. Subsequently, the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government also visited the Yengen Foundation many times. First, they put forward the idea of running a school jointly to Mr. Wu, but it failed. Later, he suggested to Mr. Wu that for the sake of national education reform, yang-en university should be turned into a private university as a pilot of national education reform. Finally, Mr. Wu agreed to the suggestions of the State Education Commission and the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Government, and was determined to make yang-en university a private university as a pilot of education reform in China. Mr. Wu's decision fundamentally and thoroughly reformed the original system in yang-en university, and made yang-en university enter a brand-new development period. At the same time, the Fujian provincial government returned all the school supplies donated by Mr. Wu to the Yang En Foundation. At that time, private yang-en university only accepted 65,438+000 students, including 50 college students and 50 Wei Peisheng.

After yang-en university's system reform, it encountered many difficulties and twists and turns, and the reform could not be smooth sailing. However, with its sincere patriotism and persistent education, the school-running organizations in private yang-en university are keenly aware that private higher education, which is closely related to deepening education reform, is bound to usher in a brilliant spring, although it is full of difficulties and difficulties. In its own reform and development, yang-en university will learn from the advanced and successful experience of running schools at home and abroad, especially the advanced and successful experience of overseas Chinese, and explore the development track of China's higher education and the new mode of personnel training in the 2 1 century.
