There are currently two medical universities in Nanjing, namely Nanjing Medical University and Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. Nanjing Medical University, founded in 1934, is one of the earliest medical colleges in China, which is jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province, and is supported by the national "double-class" and "21/project". Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, founded in 1954, is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province. It is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning of traditional Chinese medicine in China, and it is also supported by the national "double first-class" and "2 1 1 project".
