On June 27th, 2005, The Times Higher Education Supplement published the ranking of global universities in 2005, and Peking University ranked 15, surpassing famous universities such as Tokyo University and ranking first in Asia. This is also the highest ranking obtained by universities in other parts of the world except Europe and America. That is to say, in the World University Ranking of The Times Higher Education Supplement, Peking University leads many universities in Asia, Africa, South America and Oceania. The news reached China, causing great repercussions. Strangely, however, there are very few people who are "happy" for Peking University, while those who don't believe that Peking University has "lost face" and "China people have been fooled" account for the vast majority.
The ranking is naturally different in different years, but Peking University has only been "beautiful" once.
