In the adjustment of national universities 1952, yenching university was cancelled. After the Chinese mainland National Government moved to Taiwan, yenching university merged into Chung Chi College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In Chinese mainland, after its assets were taken over by the Central People's Government, most of arts and sciences were merged into Peking University, engineering was merged into Tsinghua, and law school and sociology department were merged into Beijing Institute of Political Science and Law (now China University of Political Science and Law). The school building was taken over by Peking University, and its building is still a monument in yenching university.
Yanda was born during the May 4th Movement. As an important representative of China's higher education in that era, it had an indissoluble bond with the patriotic and democratic movement of students from the very beginning. Since its establishment 33 years ago, this university has had a far-reaching impact on the development of modern higher education in China in many aspects, such as educational methods, curriculum, rules and regulations.
No university is so deeply involved in China politics as yenching university, so that it is impossible to study the modern political history of China without bypassing yenching university. May 4th Movement, Xi Incident, Civil War, Student Movement ... Many important events in modern China were related to yenching university. Under the historical conditions at that time, especially after the 1920s, missionary universities played an exemplary and guiding role in the process of educational modernization in China. Because it directly introduced the modern western education model in many aspects such as system, organization, plan, curriculum, methods and even rules and regulations, it had a far-reaching impact on education and society.
