Hainan Medical University is located in Haikou City, Hainan Province. The school is the first batch of national pilot universities for training excellent doctors, the first batch of undergraduate colleges for comprehensive professional reform and the first batch of pilot units for educational informatization.

Hainan Medical College is the only general medical college in Hainan Province and the only medical college in tropical China. Since its establishment 72 years ago, the school has taken "Tropical Medicine" as its school-running feature, always adhered to the school-running policy of "giving full play to its characteristics and serving the local area", devoted itself to cultivating students' post competence and leadership, and has delivered nearly 50,000 graduates to the society.

There are 27 undergraduate majors, covering four disciplines (medicine, management, science and engineering), forming a school-running pattern with undergraduate education as the main body, postgraduate education as the guide, international student education as the expansion and specialist education as the supplement. At present, it is the university with the largest number of undergraduate education for international students in Hainan Province.
