My undergraduate canteen is quite cost-effective. There are nine canteens, each with its own characteristics. There is a basic canteen for cooking rice, and there will also be some flavor windows, which will sell some mala Tang and braised chicken rice. This should be standard in many schools now. Then, for example, there are some, better canteens, and it is also possible to eat braised pots or hot pot in winter. But it depends on your own school itself. More specifically, you can ask your seniors and sisters to see how they are doing in the school cafeteria.
But one bad thing is the canteen. There may be meals at some times and less at other times, and there is no window for cooking.
